Fishing As a trout steam, the Boardman River ranks among Michigan’s top 10 streams. It contains excellent populations of brook and brown trout, particularly above Boardman Dam. The lower part of the river still receives substantial runs of steelhead, lake trout and salmon. Nearly all of the Boardman’s tributaries are top quality trout waters and important nursery streams.
Camping Private and public recreation facilities provide hundreds of campsites in the watershed area. Many private campgrounds offer a full range of activities, from canoe trips to horseback riding. In addition, state, county, township and municipal parks near the watershed provide camping and day use facilities.
Canoes & Kayaks For information on local recreation opportunities in the Boardman River Watershed, including canoe and kayak rental, visit the Traverse City Convention & Visitors Bureau web site at www.mytraversecity.com.
