C- Red Pine

Scientific Name: Pinus resinosa
Height: 50-80 feet
Growth Rate: 12-24 inches per year
Habitat: Shade-intolerant, it prefers full sun on a moist or dry site. Grows best on a well drained, sandy, loamy soil in full sunlight
Spacing: 6' x 8', 7' x 7'

Red Pine is tall and straight stemmed. It is native to Michigan and is an excellent tree for reforestation on poor sandy sites. It is also good for windbreaks and is good to excellent in wildlife value. It is especially good for nesting for songbirds and for winter cover for birds and mammals. Red Pine is sensitive to salt and to soil compaction.
