Prairie Dropseed

Scientific Name: Sporobolus heterolepsis
Height: 1-2 feet
Habitat: All soil types, full sun to partial shade, drought tolerant
Spacing: 1-2 feet

Prairie Dropseed is a native species grass. It is a clump-forming grass that has emerald green leaves that turn a deep orange to copper color in the fall. The seed heads develop in late summer and are silver and feathery. They are fragrant and attract many kinds of birds. This grass is easy to grow, and will grow on all soil types. It is very drought tolerant and prefers full sun to partial shade. It makes a nice accent plant in rock gardens, borders, and along foundations.
