Smooth Aster

Scientific Name: Aster laevis
Height: 1-3 feet
Habitat: Full or partial sun, sandy or loam soils, average to dry conditions

Smooth Aster is a native species named for its smooth, almost waxy leaves. It is primarily found in sunny, dry places, but will grow in partial shade. It prefers soils that are well drained. The flowers are a light blue color with yellow centers. They bloom in late summer and early fall. The blooms attract butterflies and the seeds attract birds. Smooth Aster is drought tolerant and makes a good cut flower.
