Little Bluestem

Scientific Name: Andropogen scoparius
Height: 1-3 feet
Habitat: Sandy soil with average to dry conditions in full sun
Spacing: 12-18 inches

Little Bluestem is a warm season native species grass that grows best under the heat of the summer sun, with warm nights. It is easily propogated from seed or by division. Little Bluestem is a good grass for erosion control because its roots extend 5-6 feet deep. It is also a good plant for wildlife habitat because it provides nesting places for ground-nesting birds like pheasants. Its seeds are a source of food for songbirds during the fall and winter months. Little Bluestem is also a good grass for accent plants in a backyard garden. Its tendency to clump and the beautiful bronze-red fall color make it interesting.

Age & Size: 3 1/2 inch pot
