Wild Lupine

Scientific Name: Lupinus perennis
Height: 1-2 feet
Habitat: Dry, sandy soils, full sun to partial shade
Spacing: 12-18 inches

Wild Lupine is a native species, flowering in mid to late May. It has spikes of violet-blue flowers. Lupine thrives best in areas of periodic disturbance, such as where there has been burning or mowing. Wild Lupine is the sole source of food for the Karner Blue Butterfly's caterpillar.
