Balancing Butterfly Craft

Materials (makes one butterfly):
One sheet stiff paper
Scissors
Markers/crayons/colored pencils
Glue
Two pennies

Directions:
1. Holding the paper vertically, fold it into fourths - first top to bottom, then left to right. Draw half of a butterfly on the quarter section, so that when the section is cut out, two symmetrical butterflies are made (symmetry is important if the butterfly is to balance).
2. Color the butterflies as you like-be creative!
3. Glue the two sides together
a. Placing pennies between the two sides, near the tips of each wing, and poking a small hole near its head, to allow it to balance on a pencil or hang by a string (the balancing effect is exaggerated if the back wings are made larger than the front), or
b. Placing small magnets in the same spots, to allow it to "rest" on a refrigerator.
