Central Day Care Hike - July 17

Ken Gregory led a custom hike about mammals for Central Day Care Center this morning. Thirteen children and three adults came for an exciting hike around the Fox Den Trail in search of mammals. Along the way Ken showed the children different foods mammals would eat, an old fox den, raccoon tracks, and turtle egg holes. The children were great at being quiet but still saw no mammals along the trail. After the hike the children went back to the pavilion for a drink of water and got ready to see all the animal skins! They got to touch beaver, opossum, badger, raccoon, coyote, bobcat, and mink skins! The children had a great time each taking a turn to slap the beaver tail, making a loud crack that is used to warn other beavers of danger. Ken also brought out a live Eastern Fox Snake to show the children, which they all got to feel and ask questions about. It was a great morning to be outside and learning about Michigan mammals! And remember kids - keep your eyes open for signs of mammals next time you are outside!
