The Country Side 4-H group joined Miss Tesha for a hike and community service project at the Grand Traverse Commons today. We followed along the Streamside Loop as we talked about native trees, plants, flowers, wildlife, and the history of the area. We saw maple trees, white cedar, honeysuckle, spotted knapweed, an active paper wasp nest, some tracks along the stream, and much more! After our half-mile hike we went back to the truck and pulled out buckets, rakes, and a wheelbarrow to spread woodchips on the trails. We did five loads and covered a good part of the Garfield Trail. The kids did a great job and had fun helping to maintain the trails that hundreds of people use every week. Thanks everyone for your hard work and good luck at the fair!
