Keystone Rapids Trail & Map

The Keystone Rapids Trail is part of the 500-acre County Parkland known as the Natural Education Reserve. It is managed by the Grand Traverse Conservation District. The Keystone Rapids Trail is located on Beitner Road, about five and a half miles south of Traverse City. Beitner Park is on the east side of the road and includes a large parking area, a canoe portage and fishing deck, and a rustic public toilet. The trail begins at the parking area on the west side of the road. It follows the shoreline of the Boardman River through a wooded area and then into an open area that was formerly orchards. A scenic overlook on the left allows a good view of the rapidly flowing river. The Keystone Rapids is the only stretch of whitewater rapids in the area. The trail continues through a lightly wooded area and then to thicker woods. Stairs lead to higher ground and the trail eventually connects to the Oleson Bridge Trail, just south of the actual bridge. The Keystone Rapids Trail is about .4 mile long, one-way.
