Mitchell Creek Streambank Restoration

On Friday, June 27, GTCD Land Management and Area Realtors completed a streambank restoration project improving approximately 25 linear feet of Mitchell Creek along Three Mile Road in Traverse City.  In order to improve fish habitat, three lunker structures were secured at the base of the bank just below water level.  These wooden platforms were covered with stones and will control streambank erosion as well as provide important fish cover.  The bank then received additional rocks for support and topsoil which was then seeded and mulched.    Soon, this area will be rejuvenated into a lush bank with added fish habitat below.  A tree was also lowered into the river to improve fish habitat even more, and rocks were removed from the stream and relocated for the bank’s stabilization.  Thank you very much for the entire volunteer and staff effort!
