It was a rainy morning in early May, but eight dedicated volunteers braved the weather to dig over 100 pots of beautiful native wildflowers from land slated for development. Adorned with rubber boots, rainpants and coats, gardening gloves, and cheerful smiles; these amazing volunteers dutifully dug such plants as yellow violets, trillium, Jack-in-the-pulpit, wild leeks, Dutchman's Breeches, toothwort, spring beauties, and trout lilies. These plants were then re-potted with tender loving care, and sold at the Native Plants Sale on May 17 and 18. The GTCD would like to thank all of the wonderful volunteers who have been involved in the Plant Rescue Program, and invites anyone interested in this program to call the GTCD office at 941-0960 for more information and to get involved. Two more digs have resulted in many more rescued wildflowers, and digs will continue this spring and summer. Nature is Calling....Dig It!
