Sabin Pond Boardwalk: A Great Place to Hike

As you are looking for things to do outside this summer, explore the Sabin Pond Boardwalk located in Grand Traverse County’s Natural Education Reserve.  This boardwalk has been refurbished with new boards that extend the width of the walking area.  The section of boardwalk begins soon after the scenic overlook at the bottom of the steps just past the new Boardman River Nature Center, and the trail can be accessed at the Sabin Pond Trailhead on Cass Rd.   The boardwalk will take you along the edge of Sabin Pond where you can view Sabin Dam, turtle log (on a sunny day, host to thirty or more turtles), and countless trees with evidence of woodpecker activity.  Sabin Pond Trail continues along a ridge of hardwoods, and you can loop back to the Nature Center and trailhead parking lot.  For more information on Sabin Pond Trail click here:

Grand Traverse Conservation District Land Management Staff worked for several days on improving this boardwalk which hovers over water and wet areas.  It will improve trail users’ experience as well as protect the wetland habitat.  Enjoy your experience at the Natural Education Reserve!
