Sabin Pond Trail & Map

The Sabin Pond Trail is part of the 500-acre County Parkland known as the Natural Education Reserve. It is managed by the Grand Traverse Conservation District. The Sabin Pond Trail begins at the new Oleson Pavilion near the Sabin Dam. This is also the site of the future Boardman River Nature Center. On the left, a scenic overlook gives a panoramic view of Sabin Pond and the Dam, and continues along a ridge of mixed hardwoods. Native species here include American Bittersweet, Black Cherry, White Pine, Red Pine, White Oak, Red Oak and Ironwood. Stairs lead down into the mixed hardwood forest and a boardwalk continues out onto a suspended overlook on the Pond. Native species here include Hemlock, American Beech, Red Maple and Sugar Maple. A woodland trail meanders around the pond, across a boardwalk through wetlands, and then up more stairs to the top of the ridge. The return trail goes through shrubs and mixed hardwoods and then through Red and White Pines back to the Oleson Pavilion. The Sabin Pond Trail is about .8 mile long.
