Salvation Army Day Camp Hike - August 5

Thirty kids from the Salvation Army Day Camp came for a custom hike about mammals today. Ken Gregory was our expert hike guide and took the children around the Fox Den trail in search of mammals. Most mammals are nocturnal so we didn’t see many, but we found evidence of mammals by looking for old homes and dens, scat, tracks, and tree rubbings. Although the kids didn’t see mammals they got to hear many birds along the hike and even saw a woodpecker! All kids love to see live animals so when we got back to the pavilion Ken brought out his Eastern Fox Snake to show the children. Now they can tell their parents they touched a live snake up close! Thanks everyone for coming and exploring nature with us today! Enjoy the raccoon masks you made!
