Thirty Salvation Army campers joined us at the Grand Traverse Natural Education Reserve for a hike about ponds today. Miss Cindy showed the children pictures of different animals that live in and around ponds before we set off on our hike. The children got to discover different aspects of Sabin Pond while Miss Cindy searched for insects and animals to show the children. A short walk around the Fox Den trail brought the children to a small creek, where they got to see the difference in the two aquatic ecosystems. Seeing a large Leopard Frog in the creek was definitely the highlight of the hike! After the hike we brought back the insects we had found and looked at them under microscopes before they were released back into the water. The children also got to make a coloring book to take home and remind them of the things they learned today! Now they can teach their friends and families about the life of a pond!
