S-Red Osier Dogwood

Scientific Name: Cornus stolonifera
Height: 6-10 feet
Width: Suckers form a thicket 6-10 feet wide
Growth Rate: Fast growing
Habitat: Shade intolerant, it can be planted in full or partial sun. Prefers well drained, wet to moist, sandy to clay soils. Common in open wet areas and sand dunes.

Red Osier Dogwood is a Native Species and has bright red stems, dark green leaves, and creamy white flowers. It produces berries that are high in wildlife value, especially used by waterfowl and shorebirds. Red Osier Dogwood is drought resistant and resistant to soil compaction. Because it requires moist to wet conditions, it is a good riparian plant for streambanks and upper shorelines.
