Whew!

We did it! One of the most severe and challenging erosion sites remaining on the Boardman River is finally complete. Site 160 as we know it, located below Sabin Dam, is 70 feet wide and nearly 150 feet tall.

Thanks to the skillful heavy equipment operation of Al Strange and the hard work of his Pugsley Correctional Facility Crew #3, and several members of the District Staff, this former washed out gully that dumped an estimated 50 tons of sediment into the Boardman River each year, is now stable. Crews installed 150 feet of retaining wall, 160 cubic yards of compost, access stairs, and whole-log cedar fencing. The composted leaves from the city streets, was donated by the City of Traverse City. Access was graciously granted by three local property owners. You can view this site from across the river by taking one of the hiking trails downstream of Sabin Dam at the Grand Traverse Natural Education Reserve off Cass Road.
