Wright Family Hike - July 24

Today the Wright family came to the Natural Education Reserve for a custom rocks and fossils hike. The children started off the hike by talking about how rocks are formed and how to identify different types of rocks. They got to see different types of sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks. Miss Tesha also had different types of fossils that the children got to see and touch while we talked about different types of fossils, how fossils form, and the history of Michigan. Once the children had an idea of the types of rocks to look for, they each received a collecting bag and set off in search of their own treasures! We walked along the Fox Den trail to the edge of the Boardman River to a rock outcropping where the children filled their bags with as many rocks as they could carry! After we hauled our rocks back to the pavilion, the children got to pick out a Petoskey Stone to take home and polish. Thanks for being a great group of kids and keep digging for those amazing finds!
